Seal全名Seal Henry Samuel，於1963年2月19日出生在英國倫敦，他是一名混血兒，父母分別是自尼日利亞人和巴西人。自上世紀90年代以來，Seal一直都是英國最受歡迎的男歌手之一，90年代中期以後，他把靈魂樂，民謠，搖滾，舞曲等不同的風格融入到自己的音樂中去，自成一派，使他不僅在英國保持了強大的號召力，而且還逐步贏得了美國音樂界的認可。
不久，Seal結識了音樂製作人Adamski，Seal的嗓音和演唱功力很快震動了Adamski。1990年，在Adamski的協助下，Seal發行了一張EP唱片《Killer》，這張專輯很快在英國成為了排行榜冠軍，這張EP專輯的成功，為Seal帶來了一份自己的合同。他的首張正式專輯《Seal（1991）》在1991年6月11日發行，擔任製作人的是曾經為Frankie Goes to Hollywood樂隊製作專輯的前the Buggles樂隊成員Trevor Horn。這張專輯中誕生了許多首非常優秀的單曲，無論在英國還是在美國都獲得了相當大程度的成功，專輯總銷量超過了三百萬張。在專輯發行之後他又參加了向吉他之神Jimi Hendrix獻禮的專輯《Stone Free》的錄製。
