1. Diablo 2 Accounts Closed | 8/11/2005 8:09:07 PM GMTDT

We have just closed more than 36,000 accounts for cheating on Battle.net. More

than 28,000 CD keys tied to these accounts have been disabled from Realm play on

Battle.net for one month, and more than 3,000 CD keys have been permanently

disabled from Realm play due to repeat offenses. Please see the Battle.net FAQ for

details on our anti-cheating procedure. As a reminder, the Diablo II login screen

has had a long-running warning against the use of hacks, clearly indicating that if

we detect that cheating is taking place, the offending accounts may be closed

without notice and the CD keys tied to these accounts may likewise be disabled

without notice. Today's account closures reflect our zero-tolerance policy against

cheating, as well as our effort to prepare the Realms for the new ladder season.

We appreciate the support of the thousands of legitimate Diablo II players in

helping us keep Battle.net a secure and fun place to play Blizzard games.

Currently all CD-Keys banned from play on Battle.net are the classic Diablo 2 CD-

Keys and not Lord of Destruction expansion keys, however this is subject to change

in the future. Status for a banned CD-Key is not available and contact made to

Blizzard support will not provide you with a result of a temporary or permanent

ban status on a CD-Key. In order to find the status of a banned key it will be

necessary to wait 1 month to see if the key is unbanned at that time. If it is not

unbanned after 1 month, the CD-key is permanently banned. Please keep in mind

that the 1 month timeframe is an approximation.

What happens if I hack or cheat in Diablo II on Battle.net?

In keeping with our aggressive stance against cheating on Battle.net, we will take

action on any incident of Diablo II hacking or cheating as it occurs. As part of this

procedure, the offending Battle.net account will be closed, and the related CD key

will be temporarily disabled from playing Realm games on Battle.net. Repeat

offenses will result in the deactivation of a player's CD key, permanently removing

access to Battle.net for that copy of Diablo II. Blizzard is fully opposed to cheating

on Battle.net, and we remain committed to ensuring that the millions of games

played daily on our free gaming service are fair and enjoyable for everyone

playing.
