西元1918年在經歷了1914-1918年的戰爭之後,

英國Cecil Spring-Rice爵士(圖一)寫下了這首詩.

詩詞的前段是慰念那些在戰爭中為國捐軀的英靈,

第二段則是描述對天國的渴望.

1921年時, Gustov Holst在1916年作的交響樂

”行星組曲(Planets Suite)中的”木星Jupiter”第二樂章中優美高貴的旋律,

就與這首詩結合起來.

戴安娜王妃生前最喜歡這首歌,

在她與查爾斯王子的世紀婚禮中,

這首歌的第一段就被指定為獻唱的曲目。
