這是去年的消息:

Microsoft 在經過一個多月的討論後，決定將 Mozilla Firefox 作為未來 Internet Explorer 的顯示引擎。
Dean，Internet Explorer 的團隊主導人，表示由於許多人批評 Internet Explorer 的 Trident 引擎對標準的支援很差，又沒有其他瀏覽器所能提供的功能，而 Microsoft 也有意進軍開放原始碼市場，因此 Internet Explorer 將改名 Firefox Explorer，並使用 Firefox 的原始碼。
Firefox Explorer 也將是開放原始碼的產品。
Chris Wilson，Internet Explorer 的 Web 平台開發人，表示這是個很好的開始，將有助於提高人們使用 Explorer 的意願。他很有信心的說，Firefox Explorer 將使客戶對於 Microsoft 的滿意度提高。

新的 Firefox Explorer 將和 Firefox 一樣，有下列的功能：

* 分頁式瀏覽
* 完全支援 CSS2
* PNG 32 位元支援
* 預設停用 ActiveX 控制項
* 即時最愛（相當於 Firefox 的[即時書籤]，能夠串聯 RSS 收取點）
* 佈景主題的功能，預設的主題是 "Explorer"
* 更好的增益集功能（相當於 Firefox 的[擴充套件]）

微軟也決定加入自家的一些技術：

* VBScript 支援
* 完全支援舊有 ActiveX 的 JavaScript 控制
* 可讀取編碼過的 script（如 "JScript.Encode"）
